1700s Watermill as a House

What’s up, friends?

Today’s home is so old that I can’t even guess how many people have lived (and died) within its walls. Given that it was built in 1799, used to be an active watermill, and is located on “Prison Hollow Road,” I’m… wary that the deceased number is high. The mill isn’t there any more, but the rushing water from Lewis Creek still is.

Located in Starksboro, Vermont, this single-family residence is a 2-bed, 2-bath, and 1.6k sqft. On a lot of 2.1 acres, it’s a “one of a kind” property priced at $775,000.

Yeah, the flowers out front make the house look like a cute cottage. But, from overhead, the rushing water makes the house look really cool:

Walking up to the front door, take in the details -as that’s that’ll be a theme in this house. It’s a bit rustic, but it’s aged gracefully, with the knickknacks to prove it!

Below a carved Sun, the entryway feels a bit like a shed…

Inside -all the way- we’re welcomed by an eclectic space that crams together a living room, kitchen, and dining space. The fabric patterns, wood shades, and tchotchkes don’t match… yet it kinda circles back to all going together!

The kitchen has a long island/countertop, the long dining table, and the secondary marble tabletop that totals as even more flattop space.

Remember how there's only technically (legally speaking) 2 bedrooms in this home? Well, there’s a lie in that. Because they turned a hallway with a door into a third bedroom…

It’s certainly cozy… I guess?

If you’re seeking an old bathroom that’s been well crafted: here’s the one! The bathtub is still lined with wood, while the shower feature has a circular curtain suspended from the ceiling. Does that mean this home predates modern shower technology? Wow.

Cross the bridge, above the running water, and escape to a woodsy hangout space!

Here, there’s chairs and picnic benches closer to the water -plus, a hammock! 

This patch of dirt is perfect for setting up a tent and camping really close to home. 

Finally, we’ve arrived down the stairs to the aforementioned running water…

While not grand in incline, the way the water flows it looks like a mini water fall. There’s something so beautiful about the simplicity of natural water running over rocks.

Selfishly, I hope they list this place on Airbnb. I don’t love living in the forest because there are too many bugs -but a weekend here would be incredible. Which would you prefer: living here full time or just a little vacay?
