Beauty and this BEAST (of a bookshelf)

Tale (and house) as old as time...

What’s up, friends?

Green is all I can see. And I’m not sure if it’s because the vines are overgrown, or if it’s for an aesthetic.

Today’s home was built in 1923, so I feel like either option is feasible.

Located in Topeka, KA, this 9-bed, 8-bath property packs in the charm -that might be a bit dusty, so make sure to watch your step.

Bonjour! While I know this home is American at heart (and upholstery), the bold tiling feels a little bit European. Almost like it came out of a Pinterest board!

Do you hear that? Is a candlestick singing -because this dining room is luxurious enough for a banquet, a dance number, and any occasion where’d you’d “Be Our Guest”.

(Sorry, I’m really having fun with these Beauty and the Beast references.)

Living room? More like living hall! This space combines the homey atmosphere of antiques with the knowledge of an expansive library.

I feel like we’re inside the Beast’s castle, where he built Belle her own giant library. Given how old the home is, I can only imagine how much older some of those books are.

Nearby, a nook provides the perfect spot to view the vast stained glass collection of the home. Yeah, it's a bit creepy, but kinda charming at the same time.

Even as we head downstairs, the walls, floors, and fixtures are all COVERED with detail and accoutrements. This attention to detail shows the depth of history contained in this home, and the care it’s taken to preserve it. Quite impressive.

If anything, this stairway proves that this home invented maximalism, before there was a word for maximalism.

Also, here’s a quick peek at the bathrooms:

I need your help: I can’t figure out which of these two bedrooms is the “primary bedroom”. Yes, this home has plenty of them. But their spaciousness and extravagance is hindering my sleuthing ability.

Look at all that space! There’s room for rugs, fireplaces, couches, and dressers galore!

Hats. That’s the defining amenity of this bedroom.

Corner bathtub. Wall bathtub. Why are we putting bathtubs in bedrooms?

The purple angular nature of this room is quite intriguing. The slanted walls would give me a headache, but I’ll give them props for trying something different.

Want to entertain indoors, but somewhere a bit more intimate than the library? Then the bar is perfect.

But what if the weather is nice outside? Then head to your pool, canopy, picnic table, or courtyard.

Especially in the hot Kansas sun, this backyard provides you ample shade and cooling for all of your outdoor adventures. Maybe you’ll even find another unique getaway…

Until then, you can just admire what you do have: a beautiful fountain in your front yard. And that’s pretty dang cool.
