Bright garden space... with a dark secret inside

Truly, it’s less dark and more “deco”

What’s up, friends?

Well, we’re officially in May. That means the “April showers” have ended (in theory) and the Spring flowers are beginning to bloom. So, this week, I wanted to explore a home with a bright, nature-filled yard… and a dark ($5.7 million) secret.

Built in 2021, this 6-bed, 6-bath mega-home comes with 9,800 sq. ft. of living space, 4 inside parking spots, and 21 exterior spots on the driveway. With all of that concrete paving, you can only imagine the open grassy area this property boasts around it.

You’ll also notice the home’s striking silhouette and exterior color; Yes, black exteriors are popular. They’re sleek, contemporary, and add a bold appeal to your home. At the same time, that typically doesn’t mean the home is just as dark on the inside… right?

Not this time.

Jay Gatsby decided to move inland, I see; This opulent (yet nearly gothic) take on Art Deco design is not what I was expecting from this farm-located property.

Swallowing you in blackness, the kitchen tries to invite creativity with those crystal chandeliers… but I’m not sure it works. Don’t get me wrong: I think the dark features with light accents are an artistic marvel. At the same time, though, it’s not an inviting space, like I think kitchens should be.

On the other hand, I feel like the dining room does it right. Due to its close proximity to the windows, the space is brightened by daylight -as well as bolder accents to balance the darkness.

In honor of the 1920s interior decorating, let’s go all out on the spirits! This home has a fully stocked bar and a wall-length wine cellar.

For such a luxurious home, I find this primary bedroom to be a bit underwhelming. Plus, the TV is in an awkward space, the little seating area seems redundant to all the extra living rooms in this home, and the bedspread is a color we yet to see in the home at all -beige?!

Attached to the bedroom, this en-suite is right on theme as it says “Beetlejuice” three times. All of the modern features make for a functional and intriguing space… I just hope that that mischievous ghost isn’t lurking in the shower…

Surprise, there’s an elevator! It's just one of the many conveniences this home has to offer.

Home theaters are also so convenient. This one has a mini bar, wine fridge, graffiti art, and… airplane seats?

For a home that looks like the owner owns a private plane, I’m shocked that the “ideal comfortable theater seat” is a commercial airline chair.

Step outside the secondary kitchen to the gorgeous backyard: a long pool, lounge chairs in the grass, lounge chairs in the pool, and a hot tub.

Beyond the nearby covered patio, there’s the rest of the ginormous 10.5 acre lot -perfect for some spring gardening. Heck, you could even build a greenhouse and a garden!

Next to the pool, is that a pavilion you’d see at your local forest preserve? No, because this one is enclosed in glass, has a pizza oven, hibachi table, and is just casually part of this home.

They couldn’t afford to get a trash bin that didn’t resemble Oscar the Grouch’s home, though?!

Did you think I forgot to mention the guest house?

Though, for the previous owner, I think this operated more as an office building: a separate building just for their singular office, as well as a space to “build” themselves (workout).

The converted-garage gym looks like an optical illusion: the bottom half is black & white in cool light, while the top half is wooden and warm. Is it still considered “grounding” if it’s the ceiling?

From this angle, the property appears to be a contemporary farmhouse. It looks like the perfect place to get knee-deep in the dirt and garden all of your vegetables. But we know that this place actually wants none of that greenery through its doors.
