Let the sunshine in ☀️
But keep the screen door closed. Don’t want bugs.
What’s up, friends?
Today’s home has fully embraced the spirit of the season… the protagonist of the summer… the sun!
So if you’re looking for a suburban home on the eastern side of New York (state), with a lofty sunroom, then this is the house for you…

Built in 1988, this 4-bed, 3-bath property in Northport, NY has its quirks: a 1 acre lot, 4,400 sqft, and a lackluster backyard.
There’s nothing overtly heinous about this place, but the price being just shy of $1 million ($999,999) gives me weird vibes. Like, “oh, thanks for the absolute deal this home is for being one dollar short of 7 figures!”

See… but like then I take in this driveway. And -for a suburban driveway of modest home- this is really sleek. There’s plenty of trees, shrubbery, and the stonework lines it nicely.

Inside, we’re greeted by this stunning stained glass window within the front door. Its depiction of rural mountains and a dragon establish the home’s simplicity, yet hint at some complexity.

Further past the front door, the living room has its grand reveal… of multiple large rugs. A grand piano sits in the corner… which I guess has good acoustics in a primarily empty room with high ceilings?

That vacant feeling is replicated in the kitchen, but it kinda works here:

A white kitchen always looks clean. I feel like I always describe kitchens like this as “a blank canvas for creative cooking” -but it is true! And, hey, you do want a space where food is prepared to feel sanitary!

Similarly, the dining table and powder room have an empty quality… with a pinch of complexity: cultural items, patterns, and materials.

But, on this property, the real star of the show… is the sun room!

It’s gorgeous. Imagine all the books you could read, conversations you could have, meals you could eat, all underneath the daylight, starry nights… ahh, what a dream!!!

Nothing is plain about this room. There’s the tan colors of the wood against the green outdoors, then, inside, the craftsmanship on the seats, lamps, and rug make this feel all homey.
Speaking of this being a home, let’s check out the bedrooms…

It’s cute! It’s simple! And I feel like the owners of this home enjoy their simplicity. And there’s a beauty to that… but what’s objectively beautiful is their bathroom:

Oh… I’m obsessed. From the navy blue tiling, to the Art Deco mirror, to the pops of red from decor… this bathroom is impressively done.
Sometimes this home hits it out of the park. Sometimes the rooms are empty with purple wallpaper.

Of course, the home office feels very lived-in. Everyone has one nowadays, and everyone likes to put their own spin on it. And I love how the couch in here takes up 75% of the floor space.

Anyone heard of that new horror movie Backrooms? It’s about these people who are trapped in the empty rooms in the back of a store… well the basement of this house very reminiscent of that:

Attached to this liminal space is a massive sauna! There might not be sunshine in the basement, but there is heat.

Back outside again, we get to appreciate the nature around this home. It doesn’t stray away from the huge trees and open land. This summer, a family is going to really enjoy making memories out here.

Well, it’s nice outside today so I’m gonna go soak up the rays. Whether you wanna get your sunshine from an air-conditioned sunroom, or a towel on the beach, I hope you have a great time. See you next week!
