Memorial Day Lakehouse, GET AWAY!
I need to find a different Airbnb.
What’s up, friends?
Today is Memorial Day: a day of reflection and relaxation. In the spirit of this holiday weekend, I’ve found us a lakehouse to spend the weekend in. It’s located in the state of New York, known for its many destinations: New York City, the Hamptons, the Catskills…
And wherever today’s log cabin lake house is.
Built in 2019, this 3-bed, 3.5-bath, and guest-house-having home is listed at $1.2 million. With just over two-thousand square feet, this property offers space, lakefront views, and a whole lot of wood.
It makes sense that a log cabin would be constructed in a forested area, yet it still feels odd to me. Yes, present-day buyers do like exposed wood… but not in a way that reminds them that bugs could be inhabiting the nooks and crannies of their home.
Might I add: not only does this couch look firm, but the majority of the chairs in this home are wooden. So no matter how “cozy” a log cabin makes you feel, there’s a severe lack of comfortable seating in this home.
What’s better to slash across your kitchen than an exposed staircase?!
Moreover, the staircase is really hammering in what tacky feeling this is bringing up in me: The Great Wolf Lodge. That’s what this is giving.
And call me a hypocrite, but I kind of love the cobblestone on the island.
Also, I don’t care about the practicality of a family sitting on benches -put chairs at the dining room table!
This house does remind me of a child in the way that it’s constantly pointing out the obvious while being very redundant about it all. For example…
“Remember that we’re in the woods? And the woods have trees. And trees are wood. So this house is made of wood to remind you we’re in a forest.”
“This house is in a forest. And bears live in the forest. So there are also bears in this house.”
Seriously, these previous owners need to stop shoving bears down my throat. Like I GET IT: there are bears in the forest! Next time, just get a “BEWARE BEARS” sign, please.
“We’re stuck inside of a shipping crate” is what I’d say to you, if we were inside this room. And the bears on the carpet are probably going to start talking to me once the cabin fever kicks in.
Glamour really shines with the wood Jack and Jill sinks that are directly in front of the toilet. How romantic!
Downstairs, a custom bar cohesively brings the best aspect of this home together. Here, the vintage signs, wood, and good vibes create a cozy getaway to overlook the lake.
But just around the corner, an even cooler room awaits…
Not going to lie: having a vintage arcade room in a vintage-styled home is pretty well fitting. There is also an irony to how the most contemporary walls and flooring are in a room that honors the past.
A patio that has contemporary stonework looks sleek, but not what I pictured being here -given the interior’s dated nature (pun intended).
I thought we had left this home design niche in the 1700s… and judging how it’s already back on the market, maybe we finally have.
