She’s a brick... castle 🏰

I said it was sturdy, not pretty.

What’s up, friends?

Today’s home brings envy to those 3 Little Pigs -because it’s like their brick house got the upgrade of the century!

Within the luscious hills outside of San Francisco, a castle-esque property was constructed primarily out of brick and mortar. It doesn’t look like your typical royal palace -nor is it as bougie- but it has charm. And, sometimes, a bit of charisma is all a home needs to feel truly special.

Built in 1988, this 3-bed, 3-bath, single-family residence has over 4,400 sqft and a $3.3 million dollar price tag.

With all that space, and the castle adornments, you’d think it would at least have 4 bathrooms, right? You’re telling me, there’s 2 en-suite bathrooms, then the third bedroom needs to share the home’s equivalent to a public restroom (powder room) to wash up?? Well, that’s something to look into. Let’s start our exploration…

Alert the guards! We’re walking up to the home! Have them drop the drawbridge!

(There is no drawbridge. There isn’t even a moat. But I’ve always wanted to say that, so play along.)

As we waltz up to the front door, the paving and greenery makes this place feel a bit magical. There’s a dark stone on the walkway that really pops under the reddish brickwork. Then the vines on the brick ground the space in nature -ugh, its beautiful!

Inside, it’s like a pub had a baby with a medieval tower. This grand hallway is cozy, rustic, and inviting. But that door looks like it was made of a barrel of old beer. And, given the price (and therefore authenticity) of the home, it might be.

Enough chitchat, let’s get into the meat of this house: the rooms. Here, the dining room has high ceilings, browns of various materials, and a knight to protect us from enemy kingdoms.

Should the kitchen of a castle be vast? Absolutely. Is this a true castle? Oh gosh, no.

Obsessed, I am, over the wood-lined refrigerator and brick-lined island. We must take a moment of silence to appreciate this level of detail…

Now that we’ve taken in this rare space, we can recognize the other notable things about it: stained glass cabinetry, a few plants, and a dedication to a rustic time period.

It just feels right to assume that some delicious, hearty meals have been cooked in this kitchen. Moreover, the adjacent living rooms provide more-than-ample space to entertain, relax, and act like you’re a part of the bourgeoisie during the Black Plague.

Upstairs, the entertainment space only gets more grand:

There’s a bunch of features on this deck: billiards, huge windows, a fireplace, various cushioned nooks, and even a brick-lined bathroom.

While we had to head upstairs to see more of this home, we actually need to head back downstairs to see the primary bedroom:

Tucked beyond one of the many living rooms, this primary bedroom takes the grandeur to a modern level. Those wooden doors make another appearance alongside a fireplace, brick arches, and enough room for a loveseat.

As I said before, attached to the bedroom is an en-suite bathroom built for two. This Jack and Jill style bathroom (finally) brings some tile work to the home’s design. It is wrapped up in some (in my opinion) gnarly stonework in the shower… but if you want to buy this place, I assume you like showering in caves.

The other bedrooms of this home are… better in some ways. For starters, they’re actually rooms -and not just an open pit without any true privacy.

This combination of drywall, stone flooring, and brick accents bring these bedrooms into the present day. They take aspects of many design trends to create something ownable to this home. For example, that pebble-like countertop (below) has been done before in other homes. But here it really works! There’s an artistic, rustic, and on-theme aspect to it that feels right.

Outside, we get to take in the beauty of Northern California:

Patio? Spacious. Brick? Turret. View? Immaculate.

Up close, once again, the details really sell this place. The aged texture on the brick brings variation in color, which adds to the beauty against nature’s backdrop. There’s even wood-carved sculpture to make you believe you’re in the European countryside.

As the sun sets, back up front, the home now looks like it’s been plucked from a fairytale.

Okay… I’ll admit, after looking through this home, I’ve developed a soft spot for it. Maybe I don’t want to live here permanently, but I’d return for a weekend getaway. But what about you -would you live here?
