Spa Day, everyday 🫧

Wake up, sauna, wake up, sauna...

What’s up, friends?

It’s finally February. Today is Groundhog Day. And this winter feels like it’s never ending.

So, for today’s edition, I’ve picked a home that I’d love to wake up in over and over again… because there’s an entire spa inside.

Just outside of Denver, CO, this 1964 property has 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, over 8k sq. feet, and a price tag just shy of $1.6 million. Don’t let the age of the home fool you, the remodeling inside has completely revamped it -for the most part…

At the end of a tree-lined cul-de-sac, this home sits on 1.68 acres of land. And, with that space, it holds another structure: a two-story outbuilding that’s large enough to be a 10-car garage -even though the primary residence has an attached 2-car garage.

I know I said the 1960s were wiped from this place -but a CONVERSATION PIT at the ENTRANCE?! That’s awesome. And the fireplace within it sets up the perfect, inviting environment for us to soon relaaaax…

Oh, I guess the relaxation starts now within this foliage-lined, skylight-lit meditation center. Though… I’m hungry to see the rest of this place before we settle down.

Although it doesn’t necessarily look very contemporary, this kitchen is equipped with luxury: a state-of-the-art fridge, oven, and dishwashers.

Take a step beyond the kitchen to additional countertops, a bar, and plenty of room for a large dining table. And, just a few steps down can take you to even more entertainment space.

On the floor, there’s a Yin Yang symbol to remind us of the balance of peace within this home. But that isn’t the only symbol cemented into the ground…

Do you know what the symbol on the floor stands for? It’s “Om,” a sacred Indian symbol that stands for healing and a release from stress. And Y’know what that sounds like to me?

It’s spa time, baby!

Rocks embedded in the floor lead us up to this… relaxing? sleek? Okay, I’ll be honest, I can’t decipher what this structure is, and neither does the home’s listing. From the looks of it, it seems to me a meditative body of water… maybe, possibly, I think?

That same rocky craftsmanship follows us into an actual tub, but this time it’s not scalding hot (or cold?) -it’s got jets and multiple rain heads. Oh, and in the wall is a fireplace to reach peak relaxation in the bathtub.

But what if you’re craving a more complete plunge? Not just a spring, a shower, or a tub… but more of a swim? Well, that’s why there’s an indoor pool:

Along the bottom-third of the wall is the same mosaic tiling that’s been guiding us through the amenities of this home. Here, I also want to point out the fan -which was last seen above the Om symbol- that looks like a bunch of handmade fans stitched together. To me, there’s something about that handcrafted aesthetic that provides a calmness to the space; It’s like, since I know another person spent time making it, I can view it with gratitude and peace.

…but I’ll stop boring you with my outlook on peace -let’s hit the sauna!

Lined with so much tile, an octopus made out of stones, and a sandy overtone, this sauna-bathroom combo isn’t the prettiest part of this home. Yeah, there was effort exerted into creating it, but that doesn’t mean it paid off.

Where it did pay off was in the cedar closet -I’m shocked too! Putting the stone trail around the floor perimeter is a perfect homage to the rest of the spa, while maintaining the integrity of what this closet is supposed to do.

Maybe the relaxation has inspired you to get into yoga… which would be easy to do in this home-studio that’s lined with mirrors, a frond-like fan, and natural light from the wall and ceiling windows.

If you’re a keen reader of this newsletter, you’ll notice that this edition has taken me an especially long time to get to the bedrooms of this 5-bedroom home. Well, that’s because this is the (boring, unnotable, and drab) bed-bath situation looks like currently:

That wood trim makes me… nostalgic, but not enough to want it in my home. Luckily, through those alleged 5 bedrooms is a glorious view:

If you were looking for something more homey, and less spa-like, then the outbuilding has the perfect bones for that exactly!

I said “perfect bones,” not “move-in ready.”

So, is this a home for everyone? No, but none of the Hometastrophes are. Some people want the comfort of a spa at home, while others believe that baths are like stewing in your own filthy water. There’s something for everyone.
